چکیده

The drawbar pull, travel reduction (slip), and rolling resistance are the main criteria to describe the traction behaviour of off road vehicles. Besides the engine performance, the drawbar pull is influenced by the traction conditions such as soil and the tire parameters. These traction conditions have to be described by a limited number of parameters which can be easily determined. Empirical equations were used to analyse roughly 850 traction curves measured and published by Steinkampf. As a result, the important parameters to describe the traction conditions are three tire parameters (radius, width, inflation pressure) and five soil parameters (soil cover, upper soil strength, lower soil strength, clay content, moisture content). These parameters with relative values between 0 and 100% are used to establish the equations for the traction prediction. Main steps to achieve this goal are the extension of the traction slip equation by a linear term of slip, and the description of this curve by 4 meaningful characteristic coefficients: the xand y-coordinates of the κ-maximum (σκmax, κmax), the y-axis intercept ρe, and the gradient of κ at zero slip (κ’(0)).

Slip-based Traction Control of a Planetary Rover

This paper investigates slip-based traction control of a planetary rover that travels over natural rough terrain. Special attention is made on tire-soil traction mechanics and articulated body dynamics. Experiments are carried out with a rover test bed to understand the physical behavior of tire-soil interaction and, thereby, a traction model is investigated using the tire slip ratio as a state...

Compaction-Based Deformable Terrain Model as an Interface for Real-Time Vehicle Dynamics Simulations

This paper discusses the development of a deformable terrain database to be used in a co-simulation environment with a multibody dynamics vehicle model. The implementation of the model includes a general tire-terrain traction model which is modular to allow for any type of tire model that supports the Standard Tire Interface[1] to operate on the terrain. Rather than utilizing empirical terramec...

Influence of waste tire chips on steady state behavior of sand

Materials such as waste tire chips were widely used to improve the strength of soil. The objective of this study is to discuss the residual strength or steady-state behavior of sand-waste tire chip mixtures. A series of undrained monotonic triaxial compression tests were conducted on reconstituted saturated specimens of sand and sand-tire chip mixtures with variation in the tire-chip contents f...
